Film Financing in an Evolving Film Industry

Writer: fundingnetfundingnet

Traditional methods of filmmaking are slowly being choked to out of existence. The major studios are slashing productions and budgets (at least for everything except the highest profile projects), streaming services are radically reducing their slates, and international film incentives now outpace anything offered in the USA.

Film investors are a lot more cautious as well. With many releases only spending a cursory amount of time in theaters before hitting streaming services, the odds of making a blockbuster are much smaller, and potential film financeers recognize that the risk of losing their entire investment in any production is high. Actors, directors, producers, crew, screenwriters - they are all feeling the financial squeeze.

FilmCabbage, and its parent company FundingNet, make it possible to reinvigorate your productions by offering filmmakers an alternative financing model, one that virtually eliminates their risk. Our "Multiples Program" allows filmmakers to double, triple, even quadruple the amount of money they have already raised, and we assume all risk in the production. If you have raised a minimum of $3M USD, our programs allow you to place those funds in escrow with a highly reputable trust attorney (all of the trust attorneys we use are easily vetted to confirm their reputation and legitimacy), where they will remain safely on the sidelines and at no risk in the production. In the meantime, we lend the production 2X to 4X that escrowed amount in order to fully finance their project to completion.

If the production fails to generate sufficient revenue to repay the loan, only FilmCabbage's loan funds are at risk. No matter what happens with the project, the escrowed funds are returned to their account of origin when the production is completed and the loan settled (even when it cannot be fully repaid). As a result, you (or your investor) are not reliant on the success of the project to be certain their funds cannot be lost in a failed production.

This model will work for single productions all the way up to large multi-project slates.

If you have raised $3M to $9.9M USD, we can lend you up to 2X the amount you have raised.

If you've raised $10M to $99M USD, we can lend you up to 3X your initial amount.

Should you have raised $100M or more, we can lend you 4X the amount already raised.
